Applications can be either one of two types.

1. Hosted Applications
- These are applications which are not downloaded, rather they run on an online server.
- They are only available with an internet connection.
- They are affected by bandwidth and latency. Hence application loading time can be affected.
- To avoid issues with bandwidth and latency, hosted applications usually offer less features.
- Since they are on a server, users can share the files and work on them collaboratively.
- Examples are the web version of Word vs the download version or even Google Docs.
2. Locally Installed Software
- Applications can also be locally installed.
- This would not require an internet connection to be used.
- User experience wouldn’t be affected by bandwidth/latency.
